Summary of Weeks 2 – 5 & INCURSION MONDAY

We have been very busy preparing for the Musica Viva – Rhythm Works Incursion which is coming to school on Monday 24th August. If you haven’t already please paid ensure the $7.70 is paid to the school ASAP.

Years PP-2 are at 8.55am and Years 3-6 are at 9.55am.

Parents are welcome to come to the incursion free or charge.

Over the past few weeks the students have learnt about 3 pieces of music.

1. Nature sounds – students identified the instruments and sound effects they could hear and learnt about the new instrument vibraphone. They learnt about how sounds can be made with an Ipad and how sounds can be looped and layered. We also performed some rhythms from the music on percussion instruments.

2. Liffey Falls- Students learnt that music can describe a story or place and we had fun guessing that the music Liffey Falls was describing (the waterfall in Tasmania) as a class we then used the Musica Viva interactive program to create our own waterfall soundscape. The students enjoyed adding their own sounds and also making changes so the final piece sounded good. Some classes had a go at making music to describe a given picture (haunted house, busy road, dripping tap or rain forest) The students did great job and it was good to see great group work happening in the planning of their music.

3. Samba beat – This week we are learning about Samba Music, where it comes from and the instruments commonly used. The students will also get chance to have a go at some Samba Dancing.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the incursion on Monday.
