B2 Rap and Rhyme unit

In music this term we have been using the rap “Mr Noah Rap” as a basis for our learning. Through this unit the students have learnt that rap is spoken, different rhythms, performance skills, composition skills and how to choose the best instrument for the part.

To begin we listened to the rap and discussed the story. Students then worked in groups to work out the rhythms used for each animal. After this students created movements to a given animal rhythm.

We then discussed which instruments were best to play long sounds and which were best to play short sounds. In groups students then chose which instrument was best for their given animal rhythm.

After this we listened to the “Space Shuttle Rap” and students worked in groups to create their own verse for the song, chose instruments, rehearsed and performed as a class.

Students then individually wrote their own verse and chose their instrument. They joined with 4 students and rehearsed their verses together to create their own space shuttle rap. Each group then performed for the class.
